🔱Kanwar Yatra - काँवड़ यात्रा

Kanwar Yatra Date: Ends: Friday, 26 July 2024
Kanwar Yatra

Kanwar Yatra is a ritual performed during the monsoon month of Shravan. Kanwar is called a hollow bamboo. Under this ritual, the devotees of Bhagwan Shiv are known as Kanwaria or Kanvarathi.

Kanwaria`s bring Ganga Jal from Hindu holy places like Haridwar, Gaumukh, Gangotri, Sultanganj Ganga river, Kashi Vishwanath, Baidyanath, Neelkanth, Deoghar and from other places. Pour that Ganga Jal to their local Shiva temples.

Kanwar Yatra begins from the first day of Sawan month i.e. Pratipada based on Purnima Panchang. The length of this journey depends on the distance from the Shivaji Temple, to the place where the Ganga Jal is filled. Since Kanwariya has to walk this distance by the day of Sawan Shivaratri. Therefore, the day of commencement of Kanwar yatra depends on all these circumstances.

Important Notable Things:
» During the Kanwar yatra, Kanwaria completes the yatra without consuming food and salt (ie fasting).
» Holding Kanwar on the shoulder, Kanwaria does not even consume water.
» In his journey, Kanwaria does not keep Kanwar on the ground, and does not return home without offering water to Bhagwan Shivji.
» And Gangajal is offered on the day of Shivaratri. Some Kanwaria complete this journey barefoot.
» During this entire journey, Kanwaria does not pronounce the name of any of her companions or other companions, they address each other with the name Bhole.

History of Kanwar Yatra:
In Hindu Puranas, Kanwar yatra is related to the Samudra Manthan. During the Samudra Manthan, Bhagwan Shiv consumed poison, suffering from negative energy. In the Treta Yuga, Ravana meditated on Shiv and using Kanwar, he brought the holy water of the Ganges and bestowed it on Bhagwan Shiv, thus removing the negative energy of poison from Bhagwan Shiv.

Jal Kab Hai?

15 July 2023
The most asked question is when the water will be offered under the Kanwar Yatra. On Kanwar Yatra 2023, water will be offered to Lord Shiva on Saturday, July 15, 2023 because it is Shivratri.

When do you offer water? Time to offer water? Jal Abhishek Timing?
Shivaratri, the most auspicious day of Bhagwan Shiv, is a source of positive energy, so the whole day is considered holy and auspicious for offering water. But while offering water, keep in mind, avoid the union of the two dates.

Daak Kanwar

In Dak Kanwar two or three days before Shivratri, kanwaria`s leave for Haridwar. The Dak Kanwaria Shiv bhakt`s gathered in a group of 15-20 people. After bathing and worshiping in Haridwar, pick the Ganga Jal and move back towards its destination.

The journey also consists of 2-3 bikes, large vehicles and other Kanwaria. After lifting the Ganga Jal, these Kanwaria’s run towards their destination by picking the water. When tired, the other people on the bike swap and keep each other comfortable. Once filled with jal, they only stop by going to their destinations.
