Baba Harihar Nath Mandir is located at Sonepur in Saran district of Bihar on the banks of Gandak and Ganga. Baba Hariharnath Mandir is dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu (Hari) and Bhagwan Shiva (Hara). According to Hindu religion, taking a bath here on the day of Kartik Purnima gives the result of a hundred Godans. Thousands of pilgrims come to visit the Mandir.

History and Architecture of Baba Harihar Nath Mandir
Baba Hariharnath Shivalinga is the only Shivalinga in the world which has the shape of Shiva (Hara) in half and the shape of Vishnu (Hari) in the remaining part. Both the deities present together in the same sanctum are called Harihar. It is believed that it was established by Brahma himself to bring Shaiva and Vaishnava sects closer to each other. The mythological story of Gaj-Grah is also a proof of this.

History says that Shri Ramchandra ji, while going to Janakpur with Guru Vishwamitra, stayed here and established Hari and Har. His footprints are present in Ramchaura located in Hajipur. In this area, people of Shaiva, Vaishnav and Shakta sects together take bath and perform Jalabhishek on Kartik Purnima. Before 1757, this Mandir was made of wood and black stone blocks.

It is mentioned in Sikh scriptures that Guru Nanak came here. According to Buddhism, Bhagwan Buddha went to Kushinagar through this route in his last days. Where his Mahaparinirvana took place.

The Mandir remains open throughout the week and people can visit from 4:30 am to 9 pm.

Prime festivals in Baba Harihar Nath Mandir
Shivratri is the main festival in Baba Harihar Nath Mandir. Sonepur Mela is organized every year by the government in the month of Kartik (October–November), according to the Hindu calendar month. Sonpur Fair is one of the popular fairs of Bihar.

In Sawan, devotees from all over Bihar come to perform Jalabhishek. The entire area resonates with the chants of Bolbam and Har-Har Mahadev.
