History and Architecture of the Vishal Ganpati Temple
The huge Ganapati Temple is approximately 100 years old. The idol of Bhagwan Ganesha is extremely beautiful. Inside the temple is an 11-foot-tall idol of Bhagwan Ganesha, dressed in red robes. This idol faces east, with its trunk pointing to the right. The statue wears a turban reminiscent of the attire worn during the Peshwa dynasty. A hooded serpent is depicted around the statue's navel. This statue is a monolithic (carved from a single piece) temple. The temple's architecture is also impressive and features intricate traditional designs.
The story goes that several decades ago, a devotee suddenly saw Bhagwan Ganesha sweating. Seeing Bhagwan Ganesha drenched in sweat was no less than a miracle for the devotees and from that day onwards, Bhagwan Ganesha seated in this temple is considered the most special deity of the entire Ahmednagar city.
