Neerputhoor Mahadeva Temple - नीरपुथूर महादेव मंदिर

Neerputhoor Mahadeva Temple is a famous Shiva temple located in Puthoor village of Kerala’s Malappuram district. The temple is especially known for its unique sanctum sanctorum, which remains filled with water throughout the year. Devotees believe this sacred water represents the divine presence of Goddess Ganga.

Neerputhoor Mahadeva Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of a Swayambhu (self-manifested) Shivalinga. Lord Shiva here is lovingly called Neerputhurappan by devotees.

The Shiva Lingam is surrounded by water all year, creating a rare and mystical atmosphere.
The temple is believed by local traditions to be around 3,000 years old.

The sanctum is circular in the traditional Kerala architectural style. As per Bhaktibharat, devotees usually take darshan from a special viewing area called Pattupura. During summer, when water levels reduce, devotees may enter deeper into the temple premises.

Neerputhoor Mahadeva Temple is open all week, and the darshan timings are 6 AM to 9:30 AM. On Sunday, it opens till 10 AM.
