Kadyawaril Ganpati Temple Anjarle History and Architecture

The name Kadyawaril or Kadyavarcha translates to on the cliff, as the temple is situated atop a hill overlooking the sea. The original temple is believed to date back to the 12th century, with subsequent reconstruction and renovation taking place in the 18th century. The temple houses a beautiful idol of Lord Ganesha with a trunk turned to the right Dakshinabhimukhi or Ujvya Sondacha, a feature considered particularly auspicious and spiritually powerful.

Near the temple, at a sacred spot, lie the legendary footprints of Lord Ganesha, it is believed that these marks were formed when the deity visited the hill. The temple complex also houses a smaller shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple showcases traditional Peshwa era architecture, featuring a magnificent white exterior, a dome, multiple spires, and a spacious prayer hall. A pond inhabited by fish and turtles is located nearby, further enhancing the serene atmosphere of the place. Situated atop a hill, it offers magnificent views of coconut groves, the Arabian Sea, Suvarnadurg Fort, and the surrounding Konkan region.
