The temple's dedication to mata Lakshmi led to the city's name, Lakshmipur, which eventually changed to Lakhimpur.

History and Architecture of Sankta Devi Mandir Lakhimpur
❀ This temple is believed to be approximately 5,500 years old. The temple was renovated by the Mahewa royal family.
❀ According to legend, bhagwan Krishna was visiting the Pashupatinath Temple with his wife Rukmini after the Mahabharata war. On the way, Rukmini expressed her desire to see the mata, then Shri Krishna invoked devi Lakshmi at this place and established a temple here.
❀ He also established the three shakti’s: Devi Lakshmi (Sankata Devi), Devi Saraswati (Bankata Devi), Devi Durga (Sheetala Devi).
❀ Thus, this place is considered the most prominent of the three Siddha Shaktipeeths from the Mahabharata period.
❀ Mata Sankata Devi is considered the goddess who removes troubles. Devotees believe that every wish made with a true heart is fulfilled and mata protects her devotees.
❀ Even today, many auspicious events are performed within the temple premises, such as marriages, Mundan, Annaprashan, Namkaran etc.

Sankta Devi Mandir Lakhimpur Darshan Time
The temple is open throughout the week, and the darshan timing is from 7 AM to 9 PM. The temple holds five aartis daily, each of which holds special religious significance.

1. Mangal Aarti - Time is 5:00 AM, the day begins with the divine blessings of the Mata.
2. Pratah Kalin Aarti - Time is 7:30 AM, during which the mata is adorned with a grand flower decoration.
3. Madhyan Aarti - Time is 12:30 PM. after this Aarti, the temple is closed for some time.
4. Sandhya Aarti - Time is 7:30 PM. The atmosphere at this time is very peaceful and devotional.
5. Sayan Aarti - Time is 9:30 PM. After this Aarti, the temple is closed.
