Shri Somnath Jyotirlinga Mandir is first among the twelve(12) Aadi Jyotirlings of India. Somnath means The Lord of the Soma, and the meaning of Soma is Chandra Dev (Lord Moon). Somnath has situated on Triveni Sangam of three rivers Kapila, Hiran and Sarasvati from ancient times.

Temple central hall is shaped as octagonal Shiva Yantra. The temple has sea-protection wall, it means there is no land between temple and south pole at that particular longitude. This position is indicated by arrow pillar, which is known as Banasthambh(बाणस्तम्भ) in Sanskrit.

Entry in main Garbh Grah are prohibited except the Priests of the temple. All the Electronic/Electrical Equipment, Gadgets are strictly prohibited in temple premises. All these can be stored in lockers available in cloak room. The cloak room facility is free of cost.
