It is believed, Sri Sri Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir is that holy place where Shri Hanuman Ji stayed here for some time with the grace of the Maa Ramchandi Devi. For the searching of Mata Sita Ji, Shri Hanuman had planned to go to Sri Lanka from this coast of Orisha. Ramchandi Devi, the protector of Konark guided Him to go to Sri Lanka via the southern part of India. Because southern coast is more accessible rather than this coast.

Initially when the forest used to be around the temple, then there was a small Hanuman murti, later Panchamukhi Hanuman was established here. This famous Hanuman temple is located on the left side of the route going to Konark from Jagannath Puri.
