Sanichara Mandir - शनिचरा मंदिर

Key Highlights

◉ Temple built at the place of penance of Shri Shanidev.
◉ Special temple of Shani Dev for Tantric meditation.
◉ The oldest temple of Shani Maharaj.
Shanichara temple situated on Shani mountain near Ainti village of Morena district of Madhya Pradesh is the tapobhoomi of Shanidev Maharaj. The mention of Mount Shani comes from Treta Yuga itself. But the temple and the idol were established by the Chakravarti emperor Vikramaditya. After this, influenced by the glory and miracles of Shani Dev, the then Maharaja of Gwalior Daulatrao Scindia got the temple renovated.

In the temple, Shani Maharaj's penance in the form of a tantric is in disguise, under which is holding Yagyopaveet, Sapphire in the heart, Rudraksh garland, Sumirni in one hand and punishment in the other hand.

In the 17th century, the iconic Shani Shila was consecrated in the Signapur Shani temple of Maharashtra by taking it from this Shani mountain. This temple is a very perfect temple according to Tantric activities. A huge fair is held in the temple on Shani Jayanti, under which lakhs of devotees visit the temple for darshan. After the temple darshan, the temple parikrama is glorified by the devotees.

There is a small mythical holy water tank in the temple premises, which is known as Gupt Ganga Dhara. In which water can be seen at all times while the temple is situated in a rugged area. Very ancient Tyagi Ashram is situated in the temple. The temple of Hanuman or Paude Hanuman ji lying near the temple is also stable.

Although the temple is located in Morena district, but due to its proximity to Gwalior, many devotees also know it by the name of Shani Mandir of Gwalior. There is a good parking facility around the temple, this facility may be less due to the large crowd during the fair. There is ample arrangement of shops for offerings and food outside the temple.
