Pausha Maas, this Hindu month comes after Margashirsha month, which is the 10th month according to the Hindu calendar. Pausha month begins with Purnima or Amavasya in the month of December. Shishir season is called the winter month of Pausha which is considered auspicious for various Shradh rituals and Pinddaan. Paush Purnima begins with the penance of Magh month and ends with Shakambhari Navratri. Paush month is also known as Khar maas.

Importance of Pausha Month

It is a Hindu belief that taking a bath in the Triveni Sangam at the beginning of Pausha Purnima leads to salvation. Devotees celebrate the end of Pausha Purnima as Shakambhari Purnima. On that day everyone praises Shakambhari Devi, the Devi of fruits, vegetables and greens.

What to do in Paush Month?

❀ Worship Sun God every day in the month of Pausha. Along with this, chant the mantra 'Om Hreem Ghriniah Surya Adityah Clean Om' 108 times. By this one gets the blessings of Sun God and brings prosperity in life.

❀ Charity has special importance in Paush month. Donate blankets, sesame seeds, jaggery, fruits, sweets etc. to the needy in this month. This leads to attainment of virtue and brings prosperity in life.

❀ Paush month is also considered as Chota Pitru Paksha. During this time, it is necessary to perform Tarpan and Pinddaan for the peace of the soul of your ancestors. This ensures happiness, prosperity and peace in the house with their blessings.

❀ During Khar month, no religious rites and auspicious works are performed in the Hindu world. Apart from this, this month is also prohibited for discussions of many types of domestic and traditional auspicious works.
