Vaman Jayanti is celebrated on the incarnation day of Bhagwan Vamana, the fifth incarnation of Bhagwan Vishnu in Treta Yuga. The incarnation of Bhagwan Vamana is considered to be in Abhijit Muhurta and Shravan Nakshatra on the Dwadashi date of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha. Hence this festival is also known as Vamana Dwadashi.
Bhagwan Vamana was the first Shri Vishnu incarnation in the Treta Yuga. Before this, there were four incarnations of Bhagwan Vishnu in Satyuga itself. Bhagwan Vamana is also the first complete human incarnation. The incarnation of Bhagwan Vamana took place on this earth as the son of Mata Aditi and Rishi Kashyap.
Bhagwan Vamana is also described as the fifth incarnation of Sri Hari in Sri Dashavatar Stotra of Sri Geetgovindam composed by Sri Jayadeva Goswami.

❀ On the special day of Vaman Jayanti, the most ideal way to start the rituals is by donating curd, rice and food to the Brahmins as it is considered highly auspicious on the day of Vaman Jayanti.
❀ To please Bhagwan Vishnu, devotees observe fast throughout the day as well as perform puja and other rituals.
❀ Vishnu Sahasranama and various mantras are chanted.
❀ Taking the name of Bhagwan Vishnu 108 times, devotees offer incense sticks, lamps and flowers to the deity.
❀ Devotees listen to Vaman Katha in the evening and then after worshiping and offering bhog to the bhagwan, they distribute Prasad to the devotees.

Vamana Jayanti Vrat is observed with great joy and extreme devotion at various parts of India. As per the Hindu beliefs, the devotees who observe this fast are blessed by Bhagwan Vishnu, the preserver of this Universe, and are granted forgiveness for all their past sins.
