Shitla Devi Temple, also known as Maa Shitla Mandir, is a very famous temple located near Agam Kuan in Patna city (Patna Sahib area). This temple is dedicated to Maa Shitla Devi, who is a form of Maa Durga. Devotees believe that the goddess protects against diseases like smallpox and measles. This temple is considered a Shakti Peeth and is one of the most important temples in Patna.
History and Architecture of Sheetla Devi Temple, Patna
The temple houses idols of Saptamatrikas (seven goddesses) along with Mata Sheetla Devi. Idols of Bhairava and Chandi Devi are also installed in the temple. The temple is relatively small in size but houses ancient sculptures, including a Yaksha statue reminiscent of Mauryan art. It is an archaeological site associated with Ashoka and holds historical importance. Ancient and medieval sculptures are also preserved in the temple premises.

Major Festivals at Sheetla Devi Temple, Patna
The biggest festival celebrated in the temple is Sheetla Ashtami/ Sheetla Puja in the month of Chaitra (March-April). Tuesday is considered very auspicious and hence every Tuesday is crowded with devotees. Devotees release pigeons, light lamps and offer special prayers.
Women offer Solah Shringar (16 adornments) to the Goddess. Newly married couples perform Chauthari Puja. Childless couples and patients suffering from health problems come to seek blessings.

This temple is located in Agam Kuan in Gulzarbagh area of Patna city. Which is only 8 km away from Patna Junction railway station. The nearest airport is Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport (~5 km). It is easily accessible by auto, cab or bus within the city.
