
On the day of Kartik Krishna Dwadashi, Gau mata and her calf are worshiped on the day of Govats Dwadashi. This festival is celebrated on Dwadashi after one day of Ekadashi and one day before Dhanteras. Govats Dwadashi is worshiped at godhuli bela. People who follow Govats Dwadashi avoid eating any wheat and milk products during the day.
In some parts of India, it is also called the festival of Bach Baras. In Gujarat it is also called Vagh Baras. Govats Dwadashi is also celebrated as Nandini Vrat. Nandini Gau is considered divine(Divya) in Hinduism.
Govats Dwadashi Puja is performed by women to wish for a son. On this festival, murti’s of Gau-calf, tiger and tigress are made from wet clay and placed on the patla / patta / pat, and they are duly worshiped.
Keep in mind: According to the Bhavishya Purana, the Goumata has the abode of Brahma in the background, Vishnu in the neck, Rudra in the mouth, all the devta’s in middle part and maharishigana in romchhidra, Anant Nag in the tail, mountains in the all the hooves, Gangaadi rivers in Gaumutra, Lakshmi in Gaumay and Surya-Chandra in eyes.
