Ganga Dussehra 2021 (गंगा दशहरा 2021)

The Ganges River is considered the most sacred river in Hinduism and Indian culture. Ganga is also called Papanaashni and Mokshadayini. It is believed that by merely bathing in the Ganges, a person attains salvation, which sages earn through years of penance. This year Ganga Dussehra is falling on 20th June, Sunday.
Pauranik Katha
According to mythology, the river Ganges resides in the kamandal of Brahma, emerges through the feet of Bhagwan Vishnu and descends on the earth through the Jatta of Bhagwan Shiva. This incarnation day of Ganga Ji is known as Ganga Dussehra.

Auspicious Muhurta
Ganga Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month. This year this date is falling on Sunday, June 20. However, Dashami Tithi will start from 6.50 pm on 19th June and end on 20th June at 4:25 pm. But being the Udaya date, Ganga Dussehra will be celebrated on 20th June.

Importance of Ganga Dussehra
According to religious scholars, on the day when Ganga Maa descended on the earth, ten auspicious yogas were formed together on that day. It is believed that a person who bathes in the Ganges on the day of Ganga Dussehra becomes free from ten types of sins. After bathing on the day of Ganga Dussehra, (Dan, Punya) donation should be made as much as possible, only then Ganga bath is considered complete.

On this auspicious day, people can buy valuables, new vehicles, buying or entering a new house. It is believed that the devotees who recite the Ganga Stotra on this day get relieved from all the sins.
