Ayudha Puja or Shastra Puja is one of the most important festivals in Navratri. It falls during Navami Tithi or Navratri of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. In Ayudha Puja, tools and equipment used daily by people are worshipped. In South India, along with Ayudha Puja, Saraswati Puja is also celebrated on this day.
Pouranik Katha on Ayudha Puja
According to the legend, Ayudha Puja is associated with the war when Goddess Durga fought with the demon Mahishasura. The goddess defeated the demon Mahishasura, who had taken the form of a buffalo. In the nine-day war that ended on the eve of Navami, Devi Durga used the powers and weapons that the gods and goddesses had given her. The Ayudha Puja ritual symbolizes reverence for the weapons and equipment used by them in this historical conflict.

Ayudha Puja Vidhi
❀ During Ayudha Puja, people perform various rituals ranging from cleaning the house to purification of tools and weapons. They worship with turmeric, kumkum and sandalwood paste.
❀ On this auspicious day, people also worship the contents of their books and accounts.
❀ People also worship their vehicles. They apply tilak on their instruments, offer flowers and chant various Vedic mantras and seek blessings.
Importance of Ayudha Puja
Ayudha Puja has special significance in Hindu religion. According to the Puranas, there is a tradition of worshiping weapons on this day. In earlier times, whenever Kshatriya people went to war. Then a day before Vijayadashami, he used to perform Ayudha Puja. By doing this puja, worshiping weapons and armor leads to victory in war. This worship is also considered a symbol of coordination of work and knowledge.
