Ahoi Ashtami is usually celebrated before 8 days of Diwali during the Krishna Paksha in the Kartik month as per the Hindu calendar. It is very similar to Karva Chauth festival but it is specifically meant for mother having sons.
Mothers worship Mata Ahoi (a form of Durga Maa) and do fasting for the long life and prosperity of their children.
