Vyas Jayanti is celebrated on this day
According to religious beliefs, Krishna Dvaipayana Vyas, the author of Mahabharat, was born on the holy day of Guru Purnima. Because of which Guru Purnima is also called Vyas Purnima. Krishna Dvaipayana Vyas was a great scholar of Sanskrit.18 Puranas are mentioned in Hinduism, whose author is also Maharishi Ved Vyas. Along with this, the credit of dividing the Vedas also goes to Krishna Dvaipayana Vyas ji, due to which he is also known as Vedvyas. Maharishi Ved Vyas ji is also called Adiguru.

Describing the importance of Guru, a couplet of Saint Kabir is very famous. which is like this -
“गुरु गोविन्द दोनों खड़े, काके लागूं पांय।
बलिहारी गुरु आपने, गोविंद दियो बताय॥”

Apart from this, in the famous Sanskrit verse, Guru has been described as Param Brahma -
“गुरुर्ब्रह्मा ग्रुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः।
गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः”
