History and Religious Significance of the Ambika Bhawani Temple

According to belief, this temple has existed here since the Satya Yuga. Local religious traditions regard Ambika Bhawani as a powerful Shakti Tirtha (a sacred site of divine feminine energy). The temple is dedicated to the worship of Mata Ambika and holds special significance for devotees who come seeking protection, prosperity, and the well-being of their families.

There is no stone or metal idol in the temple's sanctum sanctorum; instead, the Devi is worshipped in the form of a pinda (a sacred mound or stone symbol). Near the main temple, there are three separate Shiva temples—Baidyanath, Vishwanath, and Pashupatinath—forming an equilateral triangle, with Ambika Sthan situated exactly at its center.

The Ambika Bhawani Temple is believed to be the site of Daksha Prajapati's Yajna, where Devi Sati immolated herself following the insult to Lord Shiva. The temple remains a significant center for Yajna-kund rituals—particularly during Navaratri, when devotees offer prayers and oblations. Additionally, there is a sacred well within the complex where the water level remains constant throughout the year. The entire temple complex is constructed like a fortress and is situated atop an ancient mound in Ami village, located in the Dighwara area of ​​Bihar's Saran district.
