History and Architecture of Garib Nath Mandir

The Garib Nath Temple is approximately 300 years old. According to local belief, this area was once a dense forest featuring seven Peepal trees. During the felling of the trees, a Shivling was discovered in a miraculous event. It is believed that Baba Garibnath appeared in the landowner's dream and inspired him to begin worship at that site.

This temple is built in the traditional Nagara style of Hindu temple architecture, featuring a sanctum sanctorum at its center that houses the sacred Shivling. Over time, the temple complex has evolved primarily into a significant site of pilgrimage and worship, rather than being defined chiefly by its grand architecture or ornamentation. According to the temple's official history, the tradition of Kanwariyas bringing water from the Ganges to offer to Baba Garibnath became established specifically around the 1960s.
