Rudraksha (रुद्राक्ष)

Rudraksha
Rudraksha is a sacred seed traditionally used in Hinduism and associated especially with Shiva. The word Rudraksha comes from two Sanskrit words: Rudra – a name of Bhagwan Shiva and Aksha – meaning tears.
The Story of the Origin of Rudraksha
❀ According to the Puranas, once upon a time, the entire universe was suffering from the atrocities of demons. The gods and sages prayed to Bhagwan Shiva for protection.

❀ Lord Shiva performed intense penance for thousands of years for the welfare of all beings. When he opened his eyes, tears of compassion flowed from his eyes. Those divine tears fell on the earth, and wherever they fell, Rudraksha trees grew.

❀ Another story even after killing the demon Tripurasura, Lord Shiva saw the suffering of the world and shed tears of compassion. Rudraksha beads were created from these tears.

❀ Therefore, Rudraksha beads are considered a symbol of protection, peace, and salvation.

❀ The Shiva Purana states that wearing a Rudraksha destroys sins and bestows the blessings of Lord Shiva.

❀ One who wears a Rudraksha with devotion becomes as revered as Lord Shiva.

Types of Rudraksha (Based on “Mukhis” or Faces)
As per Botanical Origin: Rudraksha beads come from the tree Elaeocarpus ganitrus, mainly found in: Nepal, India (Himalayan region) and Indonesia. The beads are the dried seeds of the fruit of this tree. Each Rudraksha bead has natural lines or clefts called mukhis (faces). The number of faces determines its spiritual significance.
