Devotees believe that during this time Bhagwan Jagannath appears in this temple as Alarnath Deva. Devotees believe that visiting the temple at this time is as auspicious as visiting the Jagannath Dham in Puri.

Historical Importance of Alarnath Temple
Bhagwan Alarnath is depicted as a four-armed deity holding a conch, chakra, mace and lotus. He is accompanied by his wives Sri and Bhu, and at his feet is Garuda, his vehicle, with hands folded in prayer. The temple also has small statues of Rukmini and Satyabhama.

This temple is associated with the visit of Saint Ramanujacharya to Odisha. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu , during his stay in Puri, used to have darshan of the deity form of Jagannath daily. During Anasar, when Jagannath and his siblings were taken to the secret chamber for 15 days, they were unable to see the Bhagwan. According to legend, Jagannath instructed them to go to Brahmagiri and visit the Alarnatha temple. Even today, the rock is present on which Chaitanya Mahaprabhu used to perform Sankirtan.

The Alarnath temple is considered one of the 108 Abhimana Kshetras in the Vaishnavite tradition. The serene atmosphere and spiritual ambiance of the temple makes it a place of deep devotion and contemplation for pilgrims and visitors alike. Anasar Rituals of Bhagwan Jagannath .
