Alarnath Temple is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu, located at Brahmagiri, about 25 km from Puri in Odisha. This holds special significance during the Anasar period, which is after the Snaan ritual before the Rath Yatra when the deities of the Jagannath Temple in Puri are not available for darshan. Devotees believe that during this time Bhagwan Jagannath appears in this temple as Alarnath Deva. Devotees believe that visiting the temple at this time is as auspicious as visiting the Jagannath Dham in Puri.
Historical Importance of Alarnath Temple
Bhagwan Alarnath is depicted as a four-armed deity holding a conch, chakra, mace and lotus. He is accompanied by his wives Sri and Bhu, and at his feet is Garuda, his vehicle, with hands folded in prayer. The temple also has small statues of Rukmini and Satyabhama.
This temple is associated with the visit of Saint Ramanujacharya to Odisha. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu , during his stay in Puri, used to have darshan of the deity form of Jagannath daily. During Anasar, when Jagannath and his siblings were taken to the secret chamber for 15 days, they were unable to see the Bhagwan. According to legend, Jagannath instructed them to go to Brahmagiri and visit the Alarnatha temple. Even today, the rock is present on which Chaitanya Mahaprabhu used to perform Sankirtan.

Alarnath Temple Darshan Timings
The temple is open for the whole week and the darshan timings are from 6:00 am to 9:30 pm. Bal Bhog is served in the morning. Rice kheer is served in the afternoon. Khichdi with banana fry is served in the evening. Khiri Bhog offered to Alarnath Swami during Anasar is especially popular.

Alarnath temple is very well connected to other cities by road. Regular buses and taxis run between Puri and Brahmagiri. The temple is located on the way to Baliharachandi. The Puri railway station is about 22 km from the temple. The nearest airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, which is about 76 km away
