The temple, constructed between the 15th and 17th centuries by the ruler Chembakasserry Pooradam Thirunal Devanarayanan Thampuran.
The main idol represents Bhagwan Krishna as Parthasarathy—the charioteer of Arjuna in the Mahabharata—holding a whip in his right hand and a conch in his left. The temple features sloping roofs, intricate woodwork, and murals depicting the ten avatars of Bhagwan Vishnu (Dasavatharam). Ambalappuzha Palpayasam, A sweet rice pudding made of milk and sugar, offered to devotees daily. A local legend suggests that Lord Krishna visits the temple to partake in this offering.

Ambalappuzha Arattu Festival: A 10-day annual festival held in the Malayalam month of Meenam (March-April), featuring rituals like Uthsavabali, Seva, and Pallivetta. Janmashtami and Pallipana also celebrated very loudly. Pallipana is a unique ritual performed by Velans (sorcerers) once every twelve years.
