Maa Tara Chandi Temple is one of the famous Shakti Peethas of Bihar, located near Sasaram in Rohtas district. The temple is dedicated to Devi Tara (a form of Shakti/Parvati) and has deep spiritual significance. Devi Tara Chandi is considered a form of Shakti. It is believed that the right eye of Devi Sati fell here during Bhagwan Shiva's Tandava dance (after Sati's self-immolation in Daksha Yagna).
History and Architecture of Maa Tara Chandi Temple
The idol of Maa Tara in the temple has four hands. The right hand holds a knife and a scissor, while the left hand holds a hood and a lotus. The temple is associated with Tantric practices and is a major center of Shakti worship. Maa Tara Chandi is the Kuldevi of Surwar Rajputs (Gaur clan), who are currently living as a royal family of Namudag State. According to mythology, the \"right eye\" of Sati's corpse fell here when Bhagwan Vishnu cut it with his \"Sudarshan Chakra\".
It is also said that when Gautam Buddha came here after attaining enlightenment, Maa Tarachandi appeared to him in the form of a girl. After this, he was instructed to go to Sarnath, where Buddha preached for the first time. According to Bhakti Bharat, it is believed that worshipping here leads to salvation. It is said that Devi Lakshmi showers prosperity on those who worship here. According to another legend, after killing Sahastrabahu, Bhagwan Parashurama worshipped the goddess at this very place and gained power from her.
