Sharan Basaveshwara Temple (ಶ್ರೀ ಶರಣಬಸವೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ) is located in Gulbarga city of Karnataka state. It is dedicated to the famous 18th century Hindu Lingayat philosopher, teacher and saint named Shri Sharan Basaveshwara. The temple pays tribute to Basaveshwara who selflessly and tirelessly worked towards the upliftment of the society by eliminating any form of discrimination i.e. dedicated his life to Dasoha and Kayak.

It is believed that devotees visit the Sharan Basaveshwara temple to seek blessings in the temple and to get good education etc.

History and Architecture of Sharan Basaveshwara Temple:
In the center of the temple is the Samadhi of Sharan Basaveshwara which is called Garbha Gudi. There is also a lake beside it which attracts many devotees and tourists.

The temple was built about two centuries ago. Adorned with numerous pillars and arches, the 12th-century temple has exquisite carvings of elephants, eagles, flowers and parrots. Other highlights include the paintings of Basaveshwara by various artists on the walls, peacock carvings, snake sculptures and the interior decorated with glass mirrors, gold and Nizami style chandeliers. The temple is a blend of Mughal as well as Hindu architecture.

Annual Festival of Sharan Basaveshwara Temple
⦿ Devotees from India and abroad gather in the temple premises to witness the historic annual festival.
⦿ Devotees also get a glimpse of the silver plate (Prasad Batala) used by the saint on this occasion.
⦿ Along with Prasad Batala, devotees get a chance to see the linga sajjik (cover used to hold the linga) made in sandalwood and used by Sharanabhasveshwara.
⦿ People, especially the farmers of the area, continue the practice of donating a part of their harvest to the temple to provide free food to the pilgrims visiting the temple.

How To Reach Sharan Basaveshwara Temple
Gulbarga is about 574 km from Bangalore. From Gulbarga Sharan Basaveshwara Temple can be reached via taxi or auto rickshaw. By Rail a 10-hour journey in a direct train from Bangalore to Gulbarga is a viable way to reach Gulbarga.

Shri Koranti Hanuman Temple with a huge idol of Shri Hanuman ji is situated in Kalaburagi, 3 km away from here.
