Tapeshwarnath Temple, located near the railway station near Veer Bhatti Ground in Subhash Nagar, Bareilly is considered to be the oldest Shiva temple in the city. This temple is one of the seven Nath temples in Bareilly, due to which it is called Nath Nagari (City of Naths). Tapeshwarnath Temple is recognized as a Siddha Peeth, devotees believe that prayers offered here with devotion fulfil wishes.

History and Architecture of Tapeshwar Nath Temple
The sanctum sanctorum of the temple houses a self-manifested Shivlinga of Lord Shiva. Apart from this, there are also idols of Lord Ganesha, Mata Parvati, Hanuman Ji and Nandi in the temple premises. It is said that under a Peepal tree, amidst dense bamboo forest and the Ganges flowing nearby, a Shivalinga appeared automatically (Swayambhu).

A sage named Bhalu Baba is said to have meditated at this place for 400 years and his disciples like Baba Ram Tahal Das, Baba Munishwar Das, Baba Ram Gopal Das and others carried forward the tradition of penance and devotion. Over time the place became famous as Tapeshwar Nath - 'the place of penance'.

The temple complex houses idols of Shiva, Thakurji, Radha-Krishna, Ram-Janaki, Lakshmi-Narayan, Panchmukhi Balaji and Dakshinmukhi Hanuman, and also has a cowshed where seva is performed by renunciants. It is believed that many sages and saints performed rigorous penance here and pleased Lord Shiva.

Timings to visit Tapeshwarnath Temple
Tapeshwarnath Temple is open throughout the week and the darshan timings are from 4 am to 12 pm. On Sundays, the temple is open all day.

Festival at Tapeshwarnath Temple
During Sawan (Shravan) and Mahashivratri, especially on Mondays, the temple attracts thousands of devotees from the surrounding area for Jalabhishek and blessings.

Being one of the seven Nath temples - Tapeshwar Nath, Pashupati Nath, Alakhnath, Bankhandi Nath, Dhopeshwar Nath, Trivati Nath and Madhinath - it occupies an important place in the religious and cultural fabric of Bareilly.
