History and Architecture of Vighneshwar Temple, Ozar

This temple in Ozar symbolizes this divine victory. According to the Mudgal Purana and other Hindu texts, Bhagwan Ganesh defeated the demon Vighnasura, who was creating obstacles in the world. After surrendering, the demon requested that Ganesh be known as Vighneshwar, the Lord who removes obstacles.

The main deity of the temple is the east-facing Ganesh, which is self-manifested. The deity's eyes are emerald and adorned with precious jewels. The temple is renowned for its gold-plated spire, magnificent stone lamps, spacious courtyard and sturdy walls, intricate carvings, murals, and carved entrances.

After defeating the Portuguese at Vasai Fort, Chimaji Appa renovated the temple and had the spire plated with gold.
