Gudi Padwa festival is celebrated every year on Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month with great enthusiasm. The Hindu New Year also begins on this day. Primarily celebrated as the beginning of the new year in the state of Maharashtra, Gudi Padwa or Ugadi marks the beginning of the next crop year. The Chaitra Navratri festival also begins on the day of Gudi Padwa.
Significance of Gudi Padwa
Gudi Padwa holds a special place in Hinduism. It is believed that hoisting Gudi at home wards off negative forces from the house and brings luck and prosperity in life. The day also marks the beginning of spring and is considered as a harvest festival. As per bhaktibharat this festival is known by the names of Samvatsar Padvo, Ugadi, Cheti, Navareh, Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheeroba etc. in many other states. Many people believe that it is auspicious to buy gold or a new car on this day.
