Ambubachi Mela, also known as Kamakhya Mahayoga, is an important tantric and religious festival celebrated at the Kamakhya Devi Temple in Guwahati, Assam. This fair marks the menstrual period of Goddess Kamakhya, which is revered as a sacred and rebirth time. Ambubachi Mela 2025 Dates
The Ambubachi Mela will be held from June 22 to June 26, 2025. The temple doors will be closed at 2:56 pm on June 22 and reopened after special prayers in the morning on June 26. During this time, no devotee will be able to enter the temple. Special tantric rituals and sadhna are performed on the first two days of the fair, while on the last two days, special darshan and prasad distribution takes place for the devotees.
Importance of Kamakhya Devi Temple
Kamakhya Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of India and is associated with the mythological story of the falling of the vagina (genital organ) of Goddess Sati. This temple is a major center of Tantric practice and Shakta traditions.
How to reach Ambubachi Mela
To reach Kamakhya Devi, use taxi or auto from Guwahati Railway Station or Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to reach the temple. An alternative route has been opened from the Pandu area, which leads to the temple along the banks of the Brahmaputra River. This route has been opened exclusively for pedestrians.
