👶Jitiya - जितिया

Jitiya Date: Wednesday, 25 September 2024

According to the Hindu calendar, every year on Krishna Ashtami of the month of Ashwin, married women keep the fast of Jitiya. According to the belief, by observing Jitiya Vrat, the child gets happiness, prosperity and longevity. Jitiya Vrat is also known as Jivitputrika and Jiutiya Vrat.

Under Jitiya Vrat, fasting women observe Nirjal Vrat throughout the day. At the time of fasting at the time of Paran, the Bhagwan takes food only after offering Arghya to the Sun. The end of Jitiya Vrat is usually done on the next day i.e. Navami Tithi. The traditions of Jitiya Vrat are similar to those of Chhath Puja. Jivitputrika Vrat is mainly celebrated in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
