Parvati Vrat is the important fasting period which is dedicated to Devi Parvati. In Gujarat this fast is more famous as Gauri Vrat. Gauri Vrat is observed for 5 days in the month of Ashadh. It begins on the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha and ends after five days on the full moon day, Guru Purnima. Gauri Vrat is also known as Morkata Vrat. This Gauri Vrat is mainly celebrated in Gujarat. Gauri Puja fast is mainly observed by unmarried girls for a good life partner.
History of Gauri Vrat:
It is considered to be the most auspicious fast observed by women. There is a saying that a Brahmin couple worshiped Bhagwan Shiva religiously. He had everything in life except one child. It is believed that Bhagwan Shiva was impressed by her devotion and blessed her with a healthy child.
Significance of Gauri Vrat:
The festival is significant for reaping a prosperous harvest and protecting the women devotees.

Rituals of Gauri Vrat
◉ On the first day women plant wheat seeds and keep them in their temple. To decorate the pot, prepare a cotton necklace.
◉ Continue to water the wheat germ. Consumption of wheat and vegetables is also prohibited during the fast.
◉ On the fifth day, fasting women stay awake the whole night, singing bhajans and performing aarti.
◉ The sixth day is celebrated as Gauri Tritiya, which breaks the 5-day fast.
◉ On the very next day of Jagran, the wheat kept in the pot is taken out and thrown into the holy river.
◉ Women break their fast by eating nutritious food containing grains, vegetables and salt.
