Mahavir Jayanti in Hindi

हिन्दू और जैन पंचांग के अनुसार, जैन धर्म के चौबीसवें तीर्थंकर श्री महावीर स्वामी के जन्म-दिवस के अवसर पर महावीर जयंती मनाई जाती है। उन्होंने `अहिंसा परमोधर्म` के सिद्धांत और लोक कल्याण का मार्ग अपना कर विश्व को शांति का सन्देश दिया।

भगवान श्री महावीर स्वामी का जन्म ईसा से 599 वर्ष पूर्व चैत्र मास के शुक्ल पक्ष में त्रयोदशी तिथि को वैशाली स्थित के गांव कुंडग्राम बिहार में लिच्छिवी वंश राजपरिवार के महाराज श्री सिद्धार्थ और माता त्रिशिला रानी देवी के यहां हुआ था। बचपन में भगवान महावीर स्वामी का नाम वर्द्धमान था।
