History of Angkor Wat Temple
⦿ Talking about the history of Angkor Wat, tell us that between 1113 and 1150 A.D. an area of 500 acres has been covered. Today, this monument is one of the most important religious monuments ever built in Cambodia.

⦿ The Angkor Wat Temple was built during the first half of the 12th century on the orders of the then Emperor Suryavarman II.

⦿ Let us tell you that this charming temple was originally a temple dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu after which gradually changed from a Hindu temple of worship to a Buddhist temple in the 14th century. Even today the real name of this temple is unknown as no inscription of that time was found here.

Architecture of Temple of Angkor wat
⦿ The Angkorwat temple is an attractive structure with pointed towers rising from the base. This structure is a classic example of 12th century Khmer architecture.

⦿ It is formed by sandstone. Let us tell you that Wat in Angkorwat means temple in Thai. But temples have significance in the east-west orientation of this structure.

Many scholars believe that the temple was built by Suryavarman for his last resting place. The Ankorwat temple has a 65 m central tower surrounded by four small towers and a series of enclosure walls.

Mythology
The main reason behind the construction of this temple was the greed for immortality. It is said that King Suryavarman wanted to become immortal by worshiping Hindu deities. Therefore, he built a place of worship for himself in this temple, in which only Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh and all three were worshiped.

Presently, the number of followers of Buddhism in Cambodia is very high, so statues of Bhagwan Budha are found here and there. But Angkor Wat is the only place here where the statues of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh three are together. Not only this, the specialty of Angkor Wat Temple is also that it is the largest temple of Bhagwan Vishnu in the world. Stories related to the holy scriptures of Ramayana and Mahabharata are carved on the huge walls of this temple.

After witnessing many rounds of rise and fall, this temple has become a center of faith and tourism for thousands of crores of tourists and devotees of the country and the world.
