Delhi Famous Ramlila 2025 (दिल्ली की प्रसिद्ध रामलीला 2025)

Delhi Famous Ramlila 2025
Every Dussehra, Delhi comes alive with the grand storytelling of Ramlila. The dramatic enactment of the Ramayana, the epic tale of Lord Rama, his trials, exile, the abduction of Sita, war with Ravana, and ultimate triumph of good over evil. Among the many places it is performed, two venues stand out for their history, scale, and cultural resonance: Red Fort (Lav-Kush / Dharmik / Nav Shri Dharmik) Ramlila and Ramlila Maidan. These are not mere performances; they are social, cultural, political, and devotional phenomena that weave together the past and present.
The Historical Roots of Delhi's Ramlila
❀ The tradition of Ramlila in Delhi goes back centuries. It is believed to have been practised even during Mughal times, as the city evolved into Shahjahanabad (Old Delhi).
❀ Ramlila Savari, a procession beginning in Old Delhi, has been going on for over 170 years: performers dressed as Ram, Lakshman, Sita, and Ravana float in ornate processions through bazaars and streets, finally culminating at Ramlila Maidan.
❀ One of the oldest surviving Ramlilas in Delhi is run by the Shri Ram Lila Committee (near Asaf Ali Road / New Delhi Railway Station area), allegedly started under Bahadur Shah Zafar, making it over 180 years old.

Key Venues & What Makes Them Special
❀ Red Fort Grounds (Lav-Kush / Dharmik / Nav Shri Dharmik Ramlila)
❀ Lav-Kush Ramlila Committee has been staging the Ramlila at the Red Fort grounds annually since about 1979. It is one of the most high-profile productions in Delhi.
❀ The setting is grand: a large three-storey stage (in recent years up to ~180 × 60 feet) with elaborate sets including replicas of temples (for example, a Ram Mandir) and stages mimicking jungles, dramatic lighting effects, LED screens and 3D stagecraft.
❀ Performers include both local theatre artists and guest stars from film industries. The show is not just local — it is meant to be televised/globally broadcast in many years.
❀ It is a focal point for Dussehra (the final day when effigies of Ravana, etc. are burned), and draws thousands of spectators every evening, plus a mela (fair), food stalls, devotional gatherings.

How to Reach Ramlila Maidan
❀ Located between New Delhi Railway Station and Delhi Gate, Ramlila Maidan has been a traditional ground for staging Ramlila performances.
❀ The “Savari” procession (from Old Delhi through Chandni Chowk and other historic lanes) ending at Ramlila Maidan is a major part of the Delhi Dussehra tradition.
❀ The performances here are known for being more accessible (geographically and economically), community-oriented, and for retaining some of the more traditional features of Ramlila (dialogues, processions, local costumes) while also adopting modern elements.

Ramlila in Delhi is far more than an annual entertainment — it's a ritual of collective memory, devotion, artistry and drama. From the earthy processions of Ramlila Savari, to the spectacular illuminations at Red Fort, the tradition carries forward old myths, new voices, and shared experiences. As technology, policy, and public expectations evolve, Ramlila adapts — and in doing so, reaffirms its place in the heart of Delhi’s culture.
