Raja Parba is one of the most popular festivals of the state of Odisha. Dedicated to Bhuma Devi, the wife of Bhagwan Vishnu, it is a unique festival in Odisha that celebrates womanhood. Raja is celebrated for three consecutive days. The festivities begin a day before Mithun Sankranti and end two days after that.
The word Raja is pronounced raw-jaw and comes from the Sanskrit word Rajaswala, meaning menstruation.
