What is the meaning of sankalpa?
The general meaning of sankalpa is to make a firm determination to do some work. There is a tradition in Hindu religion that it is very important to take a sankalpa before doing any kind of worship, ritual or auspicious work. Any puja or auspicious work is considered incomplete without sankalpa. According to the Puranas, by worshiping without any sankalpa, Bhagwan Indra gets all the fruits. Therefore, in any kind of puja, the pundits do not forget to make sankalpa.
How is the sankalpa taken?
● Any kind of puja is never considered complete without taking a sankalpa. Also, one does not get the full results of worship. Taking a sankalpa in puja means completing the puja considering your favorite deity and yourself as a witness.
