Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj (1275 – 1296), also known as Jñāneśwar or Jñāndev, was a great 13th-century Marathi saint, yogi, poet and philosopher of the Bhakti Movement from Maharashtra.

His major works Dnyaneshwari (Bhavarth Deepika): A spiritual commentary on the Bhagavad Gita written in the Marathi language (specifically in ovi meter), making it accessible to common people. Amrutanubhav: A profound philosophical text describing his own spiritual experiences. He translates each shloka of the Sanskrit Gita and then explains its meaning beautifully in Marathi.

He believed in equality of all – rejected caste and ritualistic barriers. aught that spiritual wisdom (dnyan) should be available to every person, not just scholars. He promoted the path of Yoga, Devotion (Bhakti) and Self-Realisation.

Bhakti Bharat finds his teachings played a foundational role in the Warkari Tradition of Maharashtra. Every year lakhs of devotees participate in the Sant Dnyaneshwar-Sant Tukaram Palkhi pilgrimage from Alandi to Pandharpur.
