🐅Vindhyavasini Jayanti - विन्ध्यवासिनी जयन्ती

Vindhyavasini Jayanti Date: Friday, 4 September 2026

Vindhyavasini Jayanti is a sacred Hindu festival dedicated to Mata Vindhyavasini, a powerful form of Mata Durga. According to the Hindu calendar, Vindhyavasini Jayanti is celebrated on the Ashtami (eighth day) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada; however, in the Amanta calendar, this date falls during the Krishna Paksha of the month of Shravana. She is worshipped with special reverence at the famous Vindhyavasini Devi Mandir located in Vindhyachal, Uttar Pradesh.

According to sacred traditions, the Mata eternally resides on the Vindhyachal mountain, and is therefore known as Vindhyavasini. Worshipping the Mata dispels all forms of illness, sorrow, grief, and hardship from one's life. Mata Vindhyavasini is the primordial supreme power (Adi Mahashakti) and is also worshipped as one of the twelve Siddhividya goddesses. Various scriptures describe twelve distinct forms of Adi Shakti (the Primordial Power) as the twelve Siddhividya mata’s.

Vindhyavasini Jayanti Puja Rituals
❀ Before the worship, devotees rise early, take a holy bath, and wear clean clothes.
❀ Begin the worship by taking a Sankalp (solemn vow) and praying to Mata Vindhyavasini for the well-being of the family.
❀ Clean the place of worship and decorate the altar with flowers, Rangoli, and an image or idol of the Mata.
❀ Offer red flowers, Chunri, Kumkum, Roli, Akshat (rice grains), fruits, sweets, a coconut, and red cloth to Mata Vindhyavasini.
❀ Light a ghee lamp and incense sticks while invoking and remembering the Mata.
❀ Devotees recite Mata mantras, Durga Stuti, or verses from the Saptashati, in accordance with their traditions.
❀ Offer bhog (sacred food) to the mata, such as halwa, puri, kheer, fruits, or other sattvic sweets.
❀ Perform the Aarti of Mother Vindhyavasini with deep devotion, accompanied by the ringing of bells and the singing of bhajans and devotional songs.
❀ After the worship, distribute prasad among family members and devotees.

Many devotees also visit the Vindhyavasini Devi Temple in Vindhyachal to seek blessings and offer chunri, flowers, coconuts, and other worship materials. Those unable to visit the temple can perform the worship at home with full devotion.
