Rishi Kashyapa is one of the most revered sages in Hindu tradition and is considered a Prajapati (creator of beings) in ancient scriptures. Kashyapa means "turtle" in Sanskrit.

He was a great Vedic sage (Rishi) and one of the Saptarishis (seven great sages). Son of Marichi, who himself was a mind-born son of Brahma. Known as the "father of all humanity" (Devas, Asuras, and all living creatures) through his thirteen wives, who were daughters of Daksha.
