Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal was the 69th Shankaracharya of the prestigious Hindu monastic institution Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. Sri Jayendra Saraswati was chosen as the successor of the 68th Acharya Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati at the age of 19.

His spiritual journey began under the guidance of his guru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati, who recognized his potential and appointed him as his successor in 1954.

Jayendra Saraswati revived the Kanchi Matha by expanding its educational and social outreach. He established more than 50 Vedic schools, several temples and healthcare facilities, and founded the Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Vishwa Mahavidyalaya, a deemed university. His inclusive approach extended spiritual practices to marginalized communities, promoting social harmony and spiritual awakening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries expressed their condolences after the death of Jayendra Saraswati. Even Muslims from Kanchipuram and nearby areas visited the Kanchi Matha after his death and paid their tributes.
