Nirmala Devi, a renowned spiritual master, widely known as Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, was the founder of a new religious movement, Sahaja Yoga. Her devotees consider her to be the complete incarnation of Adi Shakti and she is now worshiped in over 140 countries.

She not only enabled people to pass on the valuable experience to others, irrespective of caste, religion or circumstance, but also taught them the meditation techniques necessary to maintain it, which came to be known as Sahaja Yoga. Like her parents, she was involved in the struggle for Indian independence and as a youth leader was jailed in 1942 for participating in the Quit India Movement.

Shri Mataji established an NGO for destitute women and children, several international schools teaching a holistic curriculum, health clinics offering treatment through Sahaja Yoga meditation techniques, and the classical skills of dance, music and painting Established an art academy to revive it.
