Sri Aurobindo made a five-fold classification of human nature i.e., the physical, the mental, the psychic and the spiritual, corresponding to five aspects of education – physical education, vital education, mental education, psychic education and spiritual or super mental education. He propounded a philosophy of divine life on earth and founded an ashram in Puducherry. His epic poem Savitri is one of his greatest works. His participation in the Indian freedom struggle against the British gave him popularity and gradually evolved to become a spiritual and yogic guru.

Sri Aurobindo's life philosophy is a synthesis of idealism, realism, naturalism and pragmatism. According to him, Jnana (knowledge), Bhakti (devotion) and Karma (work ethics) can lead man to the divine path. But synthesis of spirituality, creativeness and intellectuality is essential for a sound personality.
