Swami Ji Maharaj was the founder and head saint of Shri Pitambra Peeth situated in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh. He started performing tapasya in Datia in 1929 and established the temple of Maa Baglamukhi in 1935. His period of tapasya and sadhna was more than 50 years, which continued till his Samadhi on 2 June 1979. Swamiji had acquired deep scholarship in Vedas, Upanishads, classical music and Tantra Sadhana.

Pitambara Peeth is a major Shakti Peeth, where the temples of Baglamukhi and Dhumavati are located. There is a Sanskrit library, Sanskrit debate competitions and teaching of Tantra Sadhana are given here. Due to the contribution of Swami Ji, this Peeth is still an important religious center for devotees and seekers.

Mahant Shri Swami Ji Maharaj of Pitambara Peeth Datia is also known for his patriotism, especially during the Indo-China war of 1962. Hence, he is considered as Rashtra Guru.
