Sadly, Mahadevendra Saraswati V's tenure as the head of the monastery lasted only seven days. He passed away on February 13, 1907 at Kalavai. Before his demise, he appointed his cousin Swaminathan (later known as Chandrasekharendra Saraswati VIII) as his successor. Swaminathan was only 13 years old at that time and was studying at Tindivanam.

The samadhi of Mahadevendra Saraswati V is located in Kalavai, next to the samadhi of his guru Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati VII. His brief but influential life is remembered every year during his Aradhana, celebrated at various centres including the Kanchi Matha in Kanchipuram and Kumbakonam. These celebrations are attended by devotees and spiritual leaders, reflecting on his devotion and service to the lineage.
