Pushkar Mela is also one of the largest cattle fairs in the world.
Mythology behind Pushkar Mela
It is believed that Bhgawan Brahma, the creator of the universe, performed Yagya in Pushkar for 5 days from Ekadashi of Kartik month to Purnima. During this period, 33 crore dev devi’s were also present on earth. For this reason, the 5 days from Ekadashi to Purnima of Kartik month have special significance in Pushkar. It is said that in this month all the gods reside in Pushkar. Due to these beliefs, Pushkar Mela is organized. In olden times, due to lack of resources, devotees also brought animals with them. Gradually it came to be known as cattle Mela.”
