श्री नीलकंठ महादेव मंदिर (Shri Neelkanth Mahadev Mandir) dedicated to Shri Neelkanth Mahadev, one of the name of Lord Shiv near Rishikesh. As per Puranas, the place where the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple currently stands is the sacred location where Lord Shiva consumed the poison (Hala-Hal) during samudra manthan, made his throat blue in color therfore called Neelkanth(Blue Throated).
It stands adjacent to the mountain ranges of Nar-Narayan, the confluence of the Madhumati and Pankaja rivers, amidst three valleys- Vishnukoot, Brahmakoot & Manikoot. The temple complex also has a natural spring where devotees usually take a holy bath, a gigantic and aged pipal tree is present at the exit of sanctum, Devotees tie up sacred thread on the tree for the want of their wishes, they revist the temple to open the tie whenever their wishes are full filled. About Kanvad Yatra
काँवर यात्रा (Kanvad Yatra) is annual pilgrimage during the monsoon month Shraawan (Jul-Aug). Named after the kanvar (काँवर), a single pole (usually made of bamboo). Devotees of Lord Shiva, known as Kanvarias or kanvanrathi (काँवाँरथी), to Hindu pilgrimage places of Haridwar, Gaumukh & Gangotri in Uttarakhand; Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch holy waters of Ganges River, Ganga Jal, which is later offered at their local Shiv temples (including Kashi Vishwanath, Baidyanath, Neelkanth and Devghar).
Kanwar yatra is related to the churning of the ocean of milk in the Hindu Puranas. When Lord Shiva consumed poison during (Churning of the Ocean of Milk) samudra manthan, He started suffering from negative energy of poison. In Treta Yuga Ravana did meditation, He brought holy water of Ganga by using kanwar and poured it on Lord Shivas temple in Puramahadev. Thus releasing Lord Shiva from the negative energy of the poison.
