Jhulan Yatra is one of the most important festivals for the followers of Bhagwan Shri Krishna which is celebrated in the month of Shravan. This festival falls in the period of July-August. It is the biggest and most popular religious occasion of Vaishnavas. Known for its scintillating performances of decorated swings, song and dance, Jhulan is a joyous festival celebrating the love of Radha Krishna coupled with gusto during the rainy season in India.

Prime places for celebration:
Of all the places in India, Mathura, Vrindavan, Puri, Mayapur are most famous for Jhulan Yatra celebrations. Jhulan Yatra is celebrated in the month of Shravana (August), from the eleventh day of the bright fortnight (Ekadashi) to the full-moon day (Purnima), called Shravan Purnima, which usually coincides with the Raksha Bandhan festival. Thousands of Krishna devotees from all over the world visit the holy cities of Mathura, Vrindavan, Puri in Odisha and Mayapur in West Bengal. Idols of Radha and Krishna are removed from the altar and placed on heavily ornate swings, sometimes made of gold and silver. All the devotees swing god on the swing and get engrossed in the love of the Bhagwan.

Sri Roop-Sanatan Gaudiya Math of Vrindavan, Banke Bihari Temple and Radha-Raman Temple, Dwarkadhish Temple at Mathura, Gaudiya Math of Jagannath Puri, ISKCON Temple, Govardhan Peeth, Shri Radha Kant Math, Shri Jagannath Ballava Math and ISKCON Temple in Mayapur to name a few are major. Where this festival is celebrated with their greatest grandeur.
