According to the teachings of Swaminarayan, Akshar-Purushottam philosophy, devotees consider Swaminarayan to be manifested on earth through the present form of Akshar, Mahant Swami Maharaj. Thus, followers of BAPS believe that by doing devotion to the Guru, they offer it to Swaminarayan himself.
