Chappan Bhog is offered to the deity on festivals. Often the question arises why only fifty-six dishes are offered to Bhagwan and what are the ingredients included in these fifty-six dishes. Let us know that after all, the story of Chappan Bhog to Bhagwan:
In Chappan Bhog, there are six tastes: bitter, pungent, astringent, Amla (acid), salty and sweet. A maximum of 56 types of edible dishes can be prepared by combining these six rasas. Hence 56 Bhoga means all kinds of food which we can offer to Bhagwan. Chhappan Bhog is offered to Bhagwan Krishna on Janmashtami, the food is first offered to the deity and later distributed among the devotees as prasad (blessed food).

The ancient story behind Chappan Bhog
❀ To save the people of Braj from the wrath of Indra, when Bhagwan Krishna lifted the Govardhan parvat, he had to starve for seven consecutive days. After this they were fed fifty-six dishes for seven days and eight pahar. It is believed that since then this 'Chappan Bhog' tradition started.

❀ In Gau Lok, Shri Krishna and Radha sit on a divine lotus. That lotus has 56 petals in three layers. Each petal has a prominent sakhi and in the middle the Bhagwan sits. That's why fifty-six bhog is offered.

What happens in Chappan Bhog
The fifty-six bhog offered to Bhagwan Krishna consists of fifty-six meals which are dear to him. These fifty six diets are as follows-
