According to the Panchang, it is important to take bath in Radha Kund every year on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. Devotees come every year to take a dip in Radha Kund. To have a child, devotees take a dip in Radhakund on this day to seek the blessings of Shri Krishna and Radha Rani.
Mythological story on Radha Kund Snan
About 26 kilometers away from Mathura city, there is a place called Radha Kund in Govardhan Parikrama, which is the main stop of the Parikrama. According to mythological belief, Shri Krishna used to graze cows in Govardhan. Meanwhile, Arishtasura tried to attack Shri Krishna in the form of a cow calf but Shri Krishna killed him. After killing, Radhaji told that you have killed it in the form of a cow and hence you will be guilty of the sin of killing the cow. Hearing this, Shri Krishna dug a pond with his flute and took bath in it. On this, Radhaji also dug another pond nearby with her bracelet and took bath in it. The pond dug by Shri Krishna is called Shyam Kund and the pond of Radhaji is called Radha Kund.
According to Brahma Purana and Girraj section of Garga Samhita, after Maharas, Shri Krishna had given a boon to Radhaji as per her wish that any couple who will take bath in Radha Kund on this special day will be blessed with a son. Shri Krishna and Radha created Maharas after taking bath. It is believed that even today, in Pushya Nakshatra of Kartik month, Lord Shri Krishna performs Maharas with Radhaji along with eight friends in Radhakund till 12 o'clock in the night.
