Charumati was a dutiful woman who lived the life of an ideal woman by serving her mother-in-law, father-in-law and husband and worshiping mother Lakshmi.

In one night, mother Lakshmi came to dream in a dream and said, do chaurumati every Friday only for Varalakshmi fast for me. With the effect of this fast, you will get the desired result.

The next morning, Charumati duly worshiped Vara Lakshmi Vrat as told by Maa Lakshmi along with other women of the society. After the completion of the worship, all the women started revolving around the Kalash, while circling the bodies of all the women were decorated with various gold ornaments.

Their houses too became of gold and animals like horses, elephants, cows etc. came to them. All the ladies started praising Charumati. Because it was Charumati who told them all about this fast method. Later this story was told by Bhagwan Shiva to Mata Parvati.
